Speaking out for leasehold reform
Speaking out for leasehold reform
3rd August 2018

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I get up to as your Member of Parliament.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: jim.fitzpatrick.mp@parliament.uk along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Leasehold Debate: First-tier Tribunals and Freehold
Despite an attempted 'gagging' email, my debate on the need for leasehold reform went ahead last Tuesday.  You can watch me highlighting problems with first-tier tribunals here.
Summer Adjournment Debate
I raised a range of pressing issues in the House of Commons last Tuesday, including fire safety, problems with Universal Credit and antisocial behaviour.
Antisemitism and the Labour Party
This issue is regularly in the headlines at the moment.  I strongly oppose racism and antisemitism in all its forms.  Click the image above to see my response in full.
'Power of Speech' - Auditory Verbal therapy
In June I spoke at the launch of new research on the effectiveness of Auditory Verbal therapy.  An inspirational video of the event is now available online.
Summer Recess
From the 24th July to the 4th September the House of Commons does not 'sit'.  During this time I increase my focus on casework and my ongoing campaigns.
Tours of Parliament - spaces available
I give tours of the Houses of Parliament regularly to constituents.  Email me to book on at 10am on 13th Aug, 15th Oct or 10th Dec.  This image is the 'New Dawn' artwork commemorating the campaigns that led to women being able to vote.
Canary Wharf Group Summer Reception
It was a pleasure to speak at and support CWGs work in the community on Wednesday.  Community groups - do keep applying for grants!
Opportunities for young people
The National Citizens Service run a summer programme for young people, including events in Tower Hamlets, and the International Citizens Service are offering placements abroad.
Voices and Vote: Women's Place in Parliament
An excellent exhibition open till 6th October, free of charge in Westminster Hall.  I recommend you visit if you can.
Wapping Hockey Club
On a lighter note, Shelia and I joined the Wapping Hockey Club to cheer on England at the Hockey World Cup last week.
