Merry Christmas to all in Poplar and Limehouse!  I wish you all a Happy Christmas and the very best for 2019. 

This is the last Fitz Weekly until the New Year.  The House of Commons 'rose' yesterday and will 'sit' again on 7th January 2019.  Casework will pause until January however I will monitor my emails over the Christmas period.  So if you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: along with your name and address.  However, be aware that my response may be a little slower than usual.

Brexit Update
On Monday the Prime Minister gave a her latest update on Brexit, confirming that the vote will be the week commencing 14th January.  'No deal' preparations were increased and an emergency debate was held on 'no deal'.
Cancer Taskforce and Early Diagnosis
I have been successful in securing a Westminster Hall debate on Tuesday 8th January on early diagnosis and the cancer workforce in the NHS long-term plan.
New High Commissioner of Bangladesh
On Monday it was a pleasure to meet with the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Ms Saida Muna Tasneem.
Valuing Radio
Last Tuesday I attended the launch of the APPG on Commercial Radio's new report on the economic and public value of radio, hosted by LBC presenter Nick Ferrari.
Bangladesh: Golden Journey to Development
Yesterday I joined The High Commissioner of Bangladesh and colleagues in Parliament to celebrate Bangladesh's history and development.
Guide Dogs event
Guide dogs can be a life saver for those with sight loss.  It was great to meet Laura with guide dog Jimmy this week, though shocking to hear about the discrimination guide dog owners can face. I support their #AccessAllAreas campaign.
Ban imports of hunting trophies
On Monday the Guardian published our letter calling on the Government to ban the import of hunting trophies into the UK.  Click the image for the letter in full.
Works planned for the Tower Hill Memorial
In Tower Hamlets we are privileged to host a memorial to those sailors in the Merchant Navy who gave their lives during the World Wars.  In 2019 major works are planned to ensure the memorial stands proud for the next 100 years.
Prime Minister's Questions
You can read and watch this week's PMQs exchange here.  Jeremy Corbyn's questions all focused on Brexit, from the EU Council and meaningful vote, to a 'no deal' and 'no deal' spending.

This week in Parliament...

The Prime Minister's statement above and the subsequent questions dominated proceedings.  There was also a statement on the 'Good Work Plan' and a debate on the Digital Economy.

There was an emergency debate on the EU withdrawal agreement, a statement on the Modernising Defence Programme and a debate on the Mental Capacity Bill.

There was a statement on the conflict in Yemen, an emergency debate on a 'no deal' Brexit and a debate on Disability Support.

There was an urgent question on the Deaths of Homeless People and a debate on the Rohingya refugee crisis.
