Parliament
Hello,

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I get up to as your Member of Parliament. This update is only a few snapshots; it cannot cover the regular surgeries, ongoing case work, research and many enquiries we receive every day.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: jim.fitzpatrick.mp@parliament.uk along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Jim
EU Withdrawal Agreement
This week we had the first three days of debate on the EU Withdrawal Agreement - my speech is here.  There were votes to make a 'no deal' less likely and to force a 'plan B' from the Government within 3 days if they are defeated.
Sponsoring a debate on Cancer in the NHS
On Tuesday I sponsored a Westminster Hall debate on the early diagnosis of cancer and the cancer workforce in the NHS long-term plan.  You can read and watch here.
Tackling Loan Charge Unfairness
We had an important step forward on Tuesday in tackling this unfair, retrospective tax.  An amendment I supported was accepted and now the Government will need to review and report on the impact of their changes by 30 March.
Food Poverty in Tower Hamlets
Yesterday I welcomed colleagues Heidi Allen MP and Frank Field MP to hear about the damaging impact of Universal Credit and how our largest local Foodbank, the First Love Foundation, try to help deal with the challenges.
Campaigning for the UK's Markets
For nearly a year I have been working with market organisations to get clarity from the Treasury on markets and VAT.  Yesterday we had a further meeting on this.  Photo: Me handing over to the new Markets APPG Chair Bob Neill MP.
Welcoming pupils to Parliament
It is always a privilege to welcome schools to Parliament and today it was great to see pupils from Marner Primary School enjoying the Parliament Education Centre.
London Group of MPs meeting Cressida Dick
On Wednesday I joined London MPs in meeting Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.  Topics included knife crime, violence and funding cuts.
Thanking Noel, Les & Brendon
As they retire this week, we thanked Noel, Les and Brendon for their combined 120 years of service to the Houses of Parliament.
Campaign launch in Lansbury
On Saturday I joined the campaign launch for Lansbury Councillor candidate Rajib Ahmed.  The Lansbury and Shadwell by-elections will take place on 7th February.
Christmas in Poplar & Limehouse
Thank you to all volunteers who looked after those in their community this Christmas.  Neighbours in Poplar (above) organised meals for many, assisted by the Scouts, the Docklands Explorers, the Mayor, Canary Wharf Group and many more.
Prime Minister's Questions
The first PMQs of 2019 got underway on Wednesday and you can read and watch the questioning here.  Jeremy Corbyn's questions focused on the EU withdrawal agreement, ruling out a 'no deal' Brexit and calling for a General Election.

This week in Parliament...
