Calling for urgent action on fire sprinklers and their installation in all high-rise blocks.

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I do as a Member of Parliament. This update is only a few snapshots; it cannot cover the regular surgeries, ongoing case work, research and many enquiries we receive every day.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Latest on Brexit
This week Parliament rejected Theresa May's deal, voted against 'no deal' and to request an extension to Article 50.  You can view my voting record here where I continue to scrutinize the negotiations and oppose a 'no deal' Brexit, but I still believe the only alternative is the Prime Minister's deal.
Fire Safety and Sprinkler Systems
On Tuesday I co-sponsored a Westminster Hall debate with Sir David Amess MP where we called for urgent action on fire sprinklers and their installation in all high rise blocks.
The Future Britain Group
On Monday I attended the first meeting of this group led by Tom Watson MP, which was well attended.
Migraine: the biggest brain disabler
On Wednesday I sponsored an event as part of Brain Awareness Week where a panel of experts spoke on the disabling impact of migraines.
Delegated Legislation Committees
This week I sat on two committees to pass the legislation in case the UK leaves the EU without a deal: on Monday on Mortgage Credit and yesterday I spoke about the 28 firefighters and first responders who died at Chernobyl.
Celebrating 50 years of Janomot
Yesterday in Parliament we celebrated the 50 year anniversary of Janomot - Britain's first Bengali newspaper, founded in London in 1969.
Meeting doctors from Gaza
On Wednesday I attended a meeting of the Britain-Palestine APPG where we met doctors from Gaza to discuss the health context of the Gaza protests.
Womens' Support Services
On Wednesday it was a pleasure to meet women from 'Tea in a Pot' - a womens' drop-in in Glasgow - and hear about their inspiring work.
Historic Royal Palaces Access Fund
Great opportunity for state-funded schools to visit either the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace or Kensington Palace for free.  Schools can apply here.
Questions to the Prime Minister
You can read and watch the latest questions to the Prime Minister here.  Jeremy Corbyn's questions focused on Brexit: Theresa May's deal, 'no-deal', a customs union and the single market.

This week in Parliament...

There was an urgent question on Shamima Begum, a debate on Female Genital Mutilation and a debate on Commonwealth Day.

The Attorney General gave his legal opinion on the Withdrawal Agreement and there was the debate on Theresa May's deal.

The Government gave its Spring Statement and there was a debate on a 'no deal' Brexit.

The day was dominated by a debate on extending article 50.

Today a number of Private Members' Bills were considered and there was an adjournment debate on Funding for the Garden Bridge.
