Speaking up for leaseholders at New Providence Wharf; Ballymore must pay for and replace the defective cladding.

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I do as a Member of Parliament. This update is only a few snapshots; it cannot cover the regular surgeries, ongoing case work, research and many enquiries we receive every day.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: jim.fitzpatrick.mp@parliament.uk along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Brexit latest
The Prime Minister and the EU have now agreed to extend Article 50 to 31 October.  Negotiations between Jeremy Corbyn and the Prime Minister continue.
New Providence Wharf
On Tuesday I raised again the need for Ballymore, not leaseholders, to pay for replacement cladding at New Providence Wharf.  On Monday I met with residents regarding this with Martin Boyd from the Leasehold Knowledge Partnership.
Loan Charge Debate
Yesterday the Loan Charge debate was continued where I and many colleagues are calling for a review of the unfair Loan Charge; we have also written to the Minister.
Big Clean Up
On Tuesday I joined Mayor John Biggs, Poplar HARCA and local volunteers for our Big Clean Up at Chrisp Street Market.
Pathology Laboratory Tour
Thank you to Prof. Jo Martin and the Royal College of Pathologists for an informative and interesting tour of the Barts Heath Pathology Laboratories on Monday.
On Tuesday it was a pleasure to meet Miriam from the Ministry of Stories, a creative writing and mentoring centre in East London, and I look forward to working with them and Bishop Challoner School soon.
One Housing Youth Service
On Wednesday I joined the One Housing Youth Service for their Pizza and Parliament event at the Phoenix Heights Youth Club on the Isle of Dogs, (although I didn't see any pizza when I arrived)!
Supporting Businesses
On Monday I had an informative visit to Newable, the successor organisation to the Greater London Enterprise, which supports businesses with loans, advice, workspace and more.
Talk Radio
On Wednesday I did a Talk Radio interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer, disagreeing with her on a 'no-deal' Brexit.
Trigeminal Neuralgia
On Monday I gave an interview with BBC Radio Scotland to share my experience of Trigeminal Neuralgia and raise awareness of this condition.
Questions to the Prime Minister
Wednesday saw the latest questions to the Prime Minister.  Jeremy Corbyn asked about local government funding cuts, child poverty levels, homelessness and austerity.

This week in Parliament...

There was an urgent question on Libya, a statement on the Online Harms White Paper and the final stages of the bill to protect against a no-deal Brexit.

There was an urgent question on the Windrush Compensation Scheme, a general debate on Housing and a motion to ask the EU to extend Article 50.

There was a debate on the Continuous At-Sea Deterrent and a Westminster Hall debate on LGBT rights in Brunei.

The Prime Minister gave a statement on extending Article 50, there was a statement on the arrest of Julian Assange and the completion of the Loan Charge debate.
