Parliament
Hello,

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I do as a Member of Parliament. This update is only a few snapshots; it cannot cover the regular surgeries, ongoing case work, research and many enquiries we receive every day.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: jim.fitzpatrick.mp@parliament.uk along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Jim
Knife Crime
Following the tragic murder in Poplar on Saturday, on Monday I challenged the Government on what they are doing to protect communities from violent crime.
Unsafe electrical goods
On Monday in a debate on the recall of Whirlpool tumble dryers, I raised again the need for electrical goods to be registered at the point of sale.
'Send my Friend to School' Campaign
On Wednesday I met Nazifa (left) and Humaira (right) who are Campaign Champions from Bow School calling for education to be 'unlocked' for the most marginalised children around the world.
The Great British Spring Clean
As Chair of the Tidy Britain APPG it was a pleasure to attend a reception on Tuesday to celebrate the hard work of volunteers in the 2019 GB Spring Clean.
Tower Hamlets Community Games
Yesterday 6 local primary schools and 200 children took part in a sports festival run by Sport Inspired.  It was very well organised - giving children a taste of a variety of sports and dance activities. Photo: St Paul's Whitechapel.
Children's Hospice Week
This week for Children's Hospice Week I was briefed by the charity Together for Short Lives on the challenges they face and I have signed a motion in support.
Guide Dogs Lobby
On Wednesday I met Dave and his guide dog Chad to support their Access All Areas lobby, challenging the discrimination guide dog owners can face.
National Refill Day
On Wednesday I supported Water UK's National Refill Day, challenging the use of single use plastic bottles as a step to address our global plastic waste crisis.
Loan Smart
Last Friday I supported the charity Loan Smart in Crisp Street Market who are doing great work to raise awareness of the dangers of loan sharks.
School Summer Fairs
It was a pleasure to attend and support local school Summer Fairs last Saturday.  Above is Cllr Abdal Ullah trying to drive a rickshaw at Hermitage Primary School. I visited Canary Wharf College too.
HMS Enterprise
Yesterday Sheila and I visited the HMS Enterprise, moored at Thames Quay on a visit to London, and heard an address by the new First Sea Lord Tony Radakin.
Questions to the Prime Minister
Wednesday saw the latest round of PMQs.  Jeremy Corbyn MP asked about Grenfell-style cladding, the retro-fitting of sprinklers, tenant's rights in Housing Associations and fire service funding.
