Parliament Parliament
Hello,

Welcome to my newsletter for Poplar and Limehouse, the best way to keep up to date on some of the things I do as a Member of Parliament. This update is only a few snapshots; it cannot cover the regular surgeries, ongoing case work, research and many enquiries we receive every day.

If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, please feel free to send me an email: jim.fitzpatrick.mp@parliament.uk along with your name and address.

Best wishes,

Jim
Brexit and Parliament
This important week in Parliament has seen the progress of a law to prevent a no-deal Brexit on 31 October and the failure of a motion to call a General Election.  We wait to see the outcome of both issues before Parliament is suspended next week. I've done interviews on Talk Radio, Bloomberg and Sky News (above).
Campaigning against the unfair Loan Charge
I joined colleagues at the Stop the Loan Charge protest on Wednesday.  The Prime Minister has agreed to a review, however we need the review to be independent and for the Charge to be immediately suspended.
Funding for Sixth Form Education
Children deserve a properly funded education system.  After years of cuts and freezes I support the call for raising the rate of sixth form funding.
Fire Safety Sprinklers and Building Safety
Yesterday I intervened in a statement on building safety to press for more detail on the proposed Protection Boards.  I welcome the consultation to extend the use of fire safety sprinklers in high-rise blocks - a step I have been campaigning for.
Merchant Navy Day
On Tuesday we remembered the sacrifice of those seafarers who gave their lives in the Merchant Navy in WW2. I supported this Parliamentary motion and I will join others this Sunday at 12.30pm at Trinity Square Gardens on Tower Hill for the memorial service.
Sea Cadets National Regatta
A great sea cadets regatta last weekend by the ExCel Centre - congratulations to the hundreds of youngsters and volunteers from all over the UK who took part.
Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer Care
On Wednesday I supported this campaign raising the need for funding for breast cancer research.
Welcoming Cafe Zara to the Isle of Dogs
On Monday it was a pleasure to attend the opening of a new cafe on Pepper Street.
Supporting pubs in Poplar and Limehouse
On Tuesday I attended a drop-in to support this campaign to protect our local pubs - a campaign supported by 151 constituents.
Tour of Parliament for constituents
Last week it was a pleasure to give volunteers from Cable Street Community Gardens a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Community Speed Gun in Tower Hamlets
In August I was pleased to hear of the expected impact of a new hand-held speed gun in tackling speeding locally - click the image for details.
National Fitness Day
Yesterday I gave my support to the National Fitness Day campaign, promoting healthy and active lifestyles, co-hosted by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.
Questions to the Prime Minister
Wednesday saw Boris Johnson's first Questions to the Prime Minister.  Jeremy Corbyn's questions addressed Brexit and the impact of a no-deal.  There was also a question on the Loan Charge.
