Jim Fitzpatrick at the Houses of Parliament

Jim Fitzpatrick was born in 1952 and raised in Glasgow, before moving to London in 1973. In 1974 he became a firefighter with the London Fire Brigade.

On 1st May 1997 Jim was elected Member of Parliament for Poplar and Canning Town. During the Labour government he held several Ministerial positions. Following boundary changes Poplar and Canning Town was redrawn as Poplar and Limehouse for the 2010 election.

He is Chair of several All Party Parliamentary Groups, including the groups for Deafness, Maritime and Ports, Leasehold Reform, Tidy Britain, and Transport Safety.

Jim is married to Sheila and lives in the constituency. In his spare time he enjoys supporting West Ham United, playing 5-a-side football, cycling, reading and TV.
